You can change the weight of the buffer regardless of whether you have a rifle, or carbine buffer system. You can also use an adjustable gas system. WebOct 17, 2016 · Yes, I have an 18" rifle length gas upper. It was under gassed at first and would not lock back using low powered ammo. I drilled the gas port and ended up at 0.125" diameter. It runs great now on any ammo I feed it. It didn't cost me anything to tune it in because I have a LOT of drill bits. I wouldn't be afraid of it but do like Caleb said.
